How (much) do flowers vary?

Flowering plants are by far the largest plant group with over 250.000 species. Is there a link between the diversity of species and their variety?

In the framework of a research project funded by the FWF, Marion Chartier and Jürg Schönenberger from the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research have discovered that the diversity of flowers is very unevenly distributed and that species-poor related groups can produce an unexpectedly high diversity of forms.
