"Understanding the mechanisms and patterns of genomic and chromosomal evolution reveals how organismal diversity arises in plants," says the new professor at the Demparment of Life Sciences.

Her main research interests are genome evolution, the development of polyploidy and repetitive DNA in plant genomes:

"Chromosomes, the basal structural units of heredity, show tremendous diversity in size and genetic composition in plants, affecting morphology, metabolism, ecology, as well as diversification and speciation. Understanding the mechanisms and patterns of genomic and chromosomal evolution reveals how novelty and organismal diversity arise in plants."
