Pharmacist Monika Malik is working on the development of new chemical synthesis methods. For example, she aims to optimize active pharmaceutical ingredients by halogenation, which can lead to increased metabolic stability of the compound or improve its bioactivity. The 25,000-euro award is presented by cosmetics group L'Oreal together with the Austrian Unesco Commission and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). The aim is to help promising female talent launch a scientific career.
